We are publishing a Best Practices in Medical
Tourism series of white papers that present solutions to
problems in medical travel and health tourism from leading experts
in healthcare and medical tourism. We hope these papers will help
contribute to the professional development of industry
practitioners and the quality of international patient care and
management.
The first paper, Care and Management of Traveling
International Patients, presents the philosophy and direction
of the Medical Travel and Health Tourism Quality Alliance. It's the
foundation for MTQUA certification programs for medical travel
facilitators and international patient advisors (CIPA), for the
travel and hospitality industry, human resource managers and
support providers (CMTC).
White papers are available for free download to registered
members of the MTQUA community.

The Care and Management of Traveling International
Patients
by Julie W. Munro, CEO, InterMed Global
Undertaking medical treatment in another country has a
complexity in and of itself that is significantly different from
having the same treatment at home.
Little of this complexity is appreciated or understood within
the medical tourism community.
An environment of safety, medical excellence and care continuity
must be available and offered to all medical travelers without
regard to their home country or their medical destination.
This perspective from the Medical Travel and Health Tourism
Quality Alliance on how best to ensure that needs of medical
travelers are met is based on the experiences and insights of
medical travel agents and facilitators who have worked with
thousands of medical travelers for many years, steering their
medical journeys from inquiry through medical treatment, recovery
and post-care follow up.
