MTQuA encourages professional development in the medical travel industry and offers certification through practical training and workshops for all who are partners to patients seeking cross-border medical treatment and care.
MTQuA certification is based on our international traveling patient care management program. This is not the definitive nor the only protocol by which to support the medical traveler’s journey. However, because it is an approach to providing team care for the medical traveler that has demonstrated success over time and gained the support of leading international hospitals experienced in international patient care, we believe it is an excellent protocol to share with the medical travel and health tourism community.

About our terms and definitions.
Previously, we used the term "medical travel concierge" to describe the person(s) providing all the patient care management services performed in support of the international traveling patient, just as "concierge doctor" and "concierge medicine" are used in the U.S. to describe personal and personalized medical care and attention. But this use of "concierge" is unknown most everywhere else in the world, and "concierge" continues to be used in the sense of the hotel concierge who provides travel-related comfort and services only.
In discussing the certification program and terminology, some key hospital executives expressed a preference to find some phrase other than facilitator, agent or concierge to describe the complex and rather sophisticated care management required in working with international traveling patients.
After reviewing many options, it seemed International Patient Advisor best portrayed the nature and work of the medical travel facilitator or agent. Thus the name Certified International Patient Advisor was chosen to describe the certified professional in medical travel and health tourism.
What is an advisor? An advisor is a mentor, a guide, a leader, a coach, a problem solver, someone who finds solutions and who comes up with answers.
